The City is proud to support Plastic Free July, and is committed to encouraging residents and local businesses to reduce their use of single-use plastics (and increase recycling) during July 2022 and beyond.
This morning, in partnership with the West Metro Recycling Centre, the City hosted a Plastic Free July Morning Tea, which saw a fantastic turn-out. During the session, attendees watched an educational presentation about the future of plastics in Australia, and then had the chance to make their own beeswax wrap to take home.
The City is committed to educating residents and local businesses on ways to shop, eat and drink in Subiaco as sustainably and as plastic-free as possible. Some of these tips include:
- Buying fresh produce unpackaged, and bringing your own reusable shopping bags.
- Bringing your own drink bottle, coffee cup, cutlery or containers when buying take-away food and drink.
- Swapping bottled soft drinks for cans.
- Using reusable containers with lids to store food, instead of covering with plastic wraps.
- Supporting delis, butchers and other shops that allow you to bring your own containers to store food items.
- Buying grocery items like flour, dried fruit, nuts, seeds, soaps and spices from a bulk food store to save on packaging.
With the introduction of stage two of the Single Use Plastic Ban at the end of 2022, it will soon be even easier for residents and visitors to refuse single-use plastics when shopping, eating or drinking in Subiaco.
