In Australia, there are over 116,000 people experiencing homelessness on any given night. Homelessness Week, from 1 to 7 August 2022, aims to raise awareness of the impact of homelessness on Australia.
To support this important cause, the City of Subiaco has facilitated a range of opportunities for the community to get involved and donate to important charities in this space.
Donation boxes for RUAH Community Services, a charity providing support in areas of housing and homelesness, based here in Subiaco, have been placed at various City locations for the week, including Lords Recreation Centre, the City of Subiaco Administration building, and Subiaco Library.
RUAH has requested non-perishable food, pre-packaged meals, clothing including new underwear and socks, cleaning products, travel size toiletry packs, art supplies, backpacks or bags, sleeping bags & blankets.
There will also be two locally produced magazines available at Subiaco Library - The Big Issue, a not-for-profit organisation that creates work opportunities for people experiencing homelessness, marginalisation and disadvantage, and Parity magazine, Australia's leading national homelessness publication that focuses on research, evidence-based discussion, and advocacy.
