City of Subiaco nominated for State Heritage Award
The City of Subiaco has been announced as a finalist in the Western Australian Heritage Awards 2022.
The awards recognise outstanding commitment and contribution to heritage conservation, adaptive reuse, interpretation, tourism and promotion in Western Australia.
The City is nominated for the category of Contribution by a Public or Private Organisation, and in particular, for Subiaco Museum’s growth in visitation, and for the significant achievements of the City’s Heritage Strategy 2019-23.
Through a range of public programs, events and exhibitions, the museum has played a pivotal role in promoting Subiaco’s rich heritage to a record number of visitors over the past year.
From interactive family activities and school visits, to workshops with senior members of the community on researching ancestry, the museum has curated a diverse range of events and workshops that encourage community members of all ages to learn about and engage with the area’s history and heritage.
Alongside the work of the museum, the City’s Heritage Strategy 2019-23 has resulted in significant achievements in the City’s management and protection of its heritage, and in raising awareness of Subiaco’s unique history.
Of the nomination, Mayor David McMullen said, “The City of Subiaco is incredibly proud of its rich history and heritage, and the Subiaco Museum’s diverse range of programs, events and exhibitions that contributed to this nomination are a testament to this.
“Our commitment to identifying, protecting and promoting Subiaco’s charming built heritage through our Heritage Strategy also ensures that generations of residents and visitors will be able to appreciate the area’s beautiful historical landscape for decades to come.”
The City of Subiaco is nominated alongside the City of Bunbury, the City of Perth (Perth Town Hall), and the Shire of Collie. The winner will be announced on Friday 25 November.
