The City of Subiaco is very proud to support the local arts industry, and champion people who are creating art to share with the community, through its series of Community Development Grants.
These grants are open to individuals, community-based organisations and local groups who are creative innovative cultural and community programs, services and activities that support the Subiaco community.
Over the past few years, many organisations and groups involved with the arts have been successful in receiving grant funding from the City.
A recent grant recipient within the arts industry is Half The Sky, an organisation of artists, arts professionals and producers who celebrate the voices and works of women through artistic storytelling, facilitating conversations, and embracing the diverse cultures and communities that surround them.
Half The Sky received $4,500 in funding in the City’s September 2021 grant round for ‘The Gathering’, a one-day festival of arts focused on celebrating women. Within the last few months, they have received another $5,000 in City funding to present a staged reading of “I’m With Her”, a play written by Victoria Midwinter Pitt that features stories from eight extraordinary Australian women, including Australia’s first female Prime Minister Julia Gillard, world champion surfer Pam Burridge, and counter-terrorism expert Anne Aly MP.
“I’m With Her” will be performed at Subiaco Arts Centre on Saturday July 16, by a diverse, intergenerational cast from across WA. At time of writing, the performance is sold out.
By providing grants and funding to arts organisations like Half The Sky, the City is proud to continue to provide an outlet for local artists to share their works with the community.
