Celebrating one year of the City’s Reflect RAP

The City’s Reflect RAP (Reconciliation Action Plan) was officially launched just over a year ago – and in this time, there have been many notable achievements and initiatives implemented across the City of Subiaco.

Here are some highlights from the first year of our RAP journey:
  • Creation of a bushtucker garden in Theatre Gardens, which was officially opened at our RAP launch event in May 2024.
  • Becoming Djida exhibition at Subiaco Museum, which welcomed Dana Garlett as the museum’s first Indigenous artist in residence.
  • Noongar language lessons, Noongar Storytime, and cultural awareness sessions at Subiaco Library.
  • Continuation of our community partnership with Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company, including support of the company’s annual family picnic and performances.
  • Publication of a new webpage and booklet on the City’s website about Aboriginal history, culture and people.
  • NAIDOC Week events in 2024 (and set to return in 2025), and National Reconciliation Week breakfast for staff.
  • Performance by Aboriginal band Last Round Aces, Welcome to Country, and gifts by Whadjuk artist Wendy Hayden at January Citizenship Ceremony.
  • Naming of meeting rooms at City of Subiaco office on Hay Street to align with Noongar six seasons.
  • Promotion of Noongar Chamber of Commerce & Industry in business newsletters, and promotion of Aboriginal businesses to City staff.
Stay tuned on the City’s website and Facebook page for further updates on the City’s RAP journey.
