This month, Subiaco Library is inviting readers to go on a blind date with a book to celebrate Library Lovers’ Day on 14 February.
Library Lovers’ Day is a day to celebrate libraries, library staff and, of course, books.
Subiaco Library’s ‘Library Lovers’ display, which opens on Monday 6 February, features a collection of the library staff’s all-time favourite reads…with a literary twist.
The books, wrapped in brown paper, are each labelled with a short poem, written by the library staff, to give readers a sneak peek of what may be inside. Will you find an old favourite, or take a chance and fall in love with something new?
In addition, members of the public are invited to contribute their own sonnet, limerick, or haiku to add to the Library Lovers’ display. Readers can send their poems via email to
library@subiaco.wa.gov.au, or via private message to the Library’s Facebook page,
www.facebook.com/subiacolibraryandmuseum.
The Library Lovers’ display will run from Monday 6 February to Tuesday 28 February.
Here are a few sneak peeks of poems included in the display:
Roses are Red
Tulips are yellow
It’s never too late
To marry this fellow.
A girl from the districts was called
To join a group to be mauled.
She couldn’t say no
To the arena she did go
And thus the mob was enthralled.
He’s misunderstood.
Dress and heels feel so perfect.
Acceptance takes time.
