The City identified an opportunity to reimagine and 'green' Ada Street in 2024 - and next week, construction and greening works are set to begin.
Ada Street runs between Redfern and Heytesbury Streets in Subiaco, and the project involves a reimagining of the street surface, tree planting, and traffic calming to encourage safe driving behaviours.
A key benefit of this project is a reduction of temperatures by increasing summertime shade, which will help combat the urban heat island effect.
Other project benefits include:
- New seating
- Australian native plantings
- Protection and retention of existing trees
- New garden beds in verges
- Stormwater capture in garden beds, minimising stormwater runoff
- A bird nesting box.
The City worked collaboratively with surrounding residents to develop the concept design for the street, and invited the community to have their say in May 2024. Stay tuned for project updates.
