Art in April School holiday activity

Come along and brush up on your artistry skills with local cartoonist Aśka!

Come spend a morning with energetic visual storyteller and comic maker Aśka. Her characters are expressive, loud, and slightly naughty. Aśka believes visual literacy is one of the most important skills in today’s world and she loves projects which explore new ways of communicating and presenting ideas with images. Her latest graphic novel: Stars in Their Eyes, (with Jessica Walton), has been recognised as a notable book for the Children's Book Council of Australia's 2022 Book Awards.

In this session children will be using line-art to design and develop a protagonist. From memorable features and shape theory, to movement, emotion and expression. Participants will learn how to throw out pencils and work with markers to create bold images and embrace ‘mistakes’.

It will be filled with hands-on drawing activities as they develop their skills. Then create an image of a character for an imaginary movie or book poster, with maximum dynamic expression and story-telling appeal.
