Join celebrated artists Abdul Abdullah and MOMO (David Momyer) in conversation with artist and community radio broadcaster Minaxi May (Maxxi), offering insights into the site-specific artwork Here Together, currently being installed on the iconic Subiaco Chimney Stack, located at the newly named 1909 precinct at Subi East, the former Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) location.
We will talk about the artists’ work and its relationship to audiences and public space, specifically how this relates to this exciting site. Exploring what has informed the work conceptually and how the artist collaboration has led to the materiality and technical aspects of this monumental mural and lighting artwork.
Artist Abdul Abdullah is originally from Perth, recently relocated to Thailand. Six-time Archibald Prize finalist Abdullah works across painting, photography, video, installation, and performance. As a self-described ‘outsider amongst outsiders’, his practice is primarily concerned with the experience of the ‘other in society’.
MOMO is an American artist who began his experimental large scale outdoor work in the late 90s, working with homemade tools and borrowed public space. Ten years of free ranging projects, centred around adapted masonry techniques, strategies based on collage, computer code, and seriality, came to form the basis of his visual language.
Minaxi May is a multidisciplinary artist and since 2006 a frequent contributor to RTRFM (92.1FM). Maxxi is also one half of the Learning and Engagement Team at Art on the Move, and an install technician at Fremantle Arts Centre.
