Amendments to Local Planning Scheme No. 5
Scheme amendments
What is a local planning scheme?
A local planning scheme is a legal document that controls and manages land use and development within a local government area. Local planning schemes are made under Part 5 of the Planning and Development Act 2005, setting out general objects of schemes, matters which may be addressed in schemes and requirements for review of schemes.
What is a scheme amendment?
It is sometimes necessary, or requests are made, to amend a local planning scheme. When a change is proposed or made it is referred to as a scheme amendment. Scheme amendments occur for a variety of different reasons. Some of these reasons include:
-
changing zoning to accommodate appropriate development
-
changing the scheme’s wording to ensure more effective planning
-
implementing the strategic vision of the Local Planning Strategy
-
ensuring orderly and proper planning of the local government area.
For general information on scheme amendments, including the application process, please refer to the local planning scheme amendment fact sheet.
It is highly recommended you make an appointment with City planning staff for information and guidance before submitting your request in writing.
