Rokeby Road temporary partial closure

There will be a temporary partial closure of one lane (southbound) of Rokeby Road between Churchill Avenue and Roberts Road to enable the installation of essential sewer upgrade to cater for One Subiaco and future developments in the area.

The partial closure will be done in stages, commencing on Tuesday 4 January 2022, and will also include works on Seddon Street.

Pedestrian access along both sides of Rokeby Road will remain open at all times, as well as the northbound traffic and parking lane, and the Rokeby Road and Hay Street intersection.

Water Corporation has determined the sewer upgrade is required to provide for the increase in residential and business activity now and into the future.

While the works will cause some disruption to local businesses and community members, the City is liaising with Blackburne and its contractors to help minimise this, including moving the works from the Christmas period to January when retail and hospitality is traditionally quieter.

This strip of Rokeby has already seen a number of new businesses open recently in anticipation of the increase in residents and visitors to the area that One Subiaco is expected to attract.

Subiaco Mayor David McMullen said: "These works are necessary to satisfy a Water Corporation requirement which will enable One Subiaco and future development in the precinct to occur.

“There is never going to be a good time to do these works, but to minimise the disruption we have been working collaboratively with the developer (Blackburne) and their contractor (Civcon, who will carry out the works).

“2022 is going to be a very exciting year for Subiaco with One Subiaco due to open, an influx of new businesses set to open their doors, and a number of exciting projects and events.

“This temporary partial closure will ultimately enable greater vibrancy and revitalisation in Subiaco which I know is important to our business and residential community.

“All our local businesses will remain open and accessible so please continue to support them.”

Whilst the overall project will take 10-12 weeks to complete the partial road closures will vary according to each stage.

Expected timeline

  • Stage 1 (Seddon Street): approximately 2 weeks from 28 December
  • Stage 2 (Southbound Rokeby Road – Hay Street to Churchill Avenue): approximately 4 to 5 weeks from 4 January 2022
  • Stage 3 (Southbound Rokeby Road – Roberts Road to Hay Street): approximately 6 to 7 weeks from early/mid-February 2022
