Community planting day to celebrate National Tree Day
Monday 12 July 2021

The City is hosting a community planting event to mark National Tree Day that will see a newly-created hydro-zone bed filled with 3000 Western Australian native plants.

A hydro-zone garden bed groups plants that have similar water requirements together as a way to conserve water and increase sustainability.

Native plants not only help save water, but also reduce the need for excess fertiliser and weed control while increasing biodiversity.

The event will transform 1000sqm at Lake Jualbup (along the Evans Street verge) on Sunday 1 August. It will run from 9.30am to 11.30am, with Mayor Penny Taylor opening the event.

The City has been participating in National Tree Day since 2008, with the community contributing to the planting of many areas such as Mueller Park, portions of Stubbs Terrace, Rosalie Park and Charles Stoke Reserve.

This planting event is a great opportunity to continue this valuable work and celebrate the natural environment and the City's local biodiversity.

All local residents are welcome.

Please dress appropriately for the weather, bring your own gloves and trowel, and observe physical distancing. Light refreshments will be provided.
