Following a unanimous decision at the Special Council Meeting on Tuesday 1 June, Mr Colin Cameron has been appointed as the new CEO for the City of Subiaco.
Mr Cameron has extensive experience in local government, most recently as Director Corporate Services at City of South Perth where he led a business transformation, implementing the first cloud-based local government enterprise system in WA to improve the customer experience.
He has previously worked at City of Swan and Town of Bassendean, as well as in the State Government and the private sector.
In 2020, Local Government Professionals WA presented Mr Cameron with the prestigious Meritorious Award.
Subiaco Mayor Penny Taylor said Mr Cameron had a great track record as a high-performing executive and a strong background in management.
“Mr Cameron’s passion for local government is clear and we are confident he will provide strategic leadership for our City going forward,” she said.
“With so much change in the works, it’s an important time for our City – and great leadership is vital to ensure our community thrives through it all.
"Council is looking forward to working with Mr Cameron.”
Mr Cameron said he was looking forward to commencing his new role in August.
“I’m excited to have this opportunity to work at the City of Subiaco at such a pivotal time,” he said.
“Subiaco is undergoing a real resurgence and there are some major developments underway or coming that mean we’ll soon be welcoming new residents and visitors.
“I’m eager to get to know this community, and focussed on delivering positive outcomes for the City.”
The City would like to thank outgoing Acting CEO Cliff Frewing who has been in the role since September 2020.
Mayor Taylor said Mr Frewing had conducted himself well in his role of Acting CEO – concentrating on the recruitment of a full-time CEO.
“During Mr Frewing’s tenure, there were COVID-19 lockdowns, an authorised inquiry, a ward and representation review, and the ongoing partial closure of Hay Street – just to name a few – over and above his primary role of recruiting a full-time CEO to take the City forward,” she said.
“We thank Mr Frewing for his commitment and hard work and wish him the very best for the future.”
Mr Cameron will commence at the City of Subiaco on Monday 16 August.
Mr Colin Cameron has worked in both the local and state public sectors, and has experience as a board member in the private sector.
In his 19 years in local government, Mr Cameron has been responsible for finance, information systems, customer services, stakeholder relations, human resources, governance, marketing, and economic development and commercialisation.
In addition, Mr Cameron has a good appreciation for town planning, having been responsible for the developer contribution plans for the new suburbs of Brabham, Dayton and Bennett Springs in the City of Swan.
Prior to joining local government, Mr Cameron held various accounting roles with State Government agencies such as Murdoch University, TAFE International, Central TAFE, Treasury, and Homeswest.
Mr Cameron has a Bachelor of Business (Accounting), and Masters of Leadership, Human Resource Management and Business Administration. He is a Fellow of CPA Australia and graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
