Live music to take over Subiaco’s venues, laneways and streets
Wednesday 9 September 2020

Some of WA’s best performers are set to turn Subiaco into a toe-tapping, groove-filled cultural melting pot for 10 colourful evenings as the Subi Lounge Series gets underway.

The See Subiaco event will bring a diverse line-up of immersive live music to Subiaco’s venues, laneways and streets covering gypsy and improvised jazz, African dance, chilled folk club, funk and soul and everything in-between.

Surprise performances will pop-up in laneways and on street corners alongside intimate gigs in some of the City’s best bars and restaurants, and the Regal Theatre’s Attic Bar will be transformed into an art deco jazz hub for a limited time.

The series – which runs from 24 September to 3 October – will finish with a colourful outdoor carpark concert featuring brass-filled African beats with a serving of fluid funk and nu-jazz to officially welcome in spring.

The unique event series will help support the local economy, businesses, artists and performers by encouraging visitation, increasing vibrancy and providing work opportunities for artists in Perth during the pandemic.

Series curator Rod Vervest said the Subi Lounge Series would feel a bit like a large music festival spread around in bite-sized morsels of goodness.

“It is as diverse and exciting as any major festival event, yet it occupies hidden gems of cafes, bars and restaurants,” he said.

“The program inspires a journey of discovery. It’s an alluring and unique matrix of experiences that punters can plan their own journey through. Take as little, or as much as you like”.

City of Subiaco Mayor Penny Taylor said the Subi Lounge Series would not only put Subiaco’s great local venues and businesses front and centre, but would also bring something truly unique to the Perth music scene.

“It’s so exciting to see this event expand and diversify this year to celebrate so many different music genres and cultures,” she said.

“By popular demand the series is now across 10 days, supporting more artists and the performing arts industry that’s been hard hit by the pandemic.”

There will be a mix of free and ticketed events, and parking is free after 5pm and on weekends.
