Subiaco’s recycling continues to be processed appropriately while negotiations for long-term solution take place
Wednesday 5 February 2020

Following the November 2019 fire which destroyed the Cleanaway recycling facility, the City implemented an interim solution to avoid recycling materials being sent to landfill.

Unlike some other local governments affected, the City of Subiaco self-manages the collection of waste and recycling and relies on contractors for processing only.

Since 19 December 2019, City of Subiaco recycling collections have been processed at the South Metropolitan Regional Council facility (SMRC). This arrangement is still in place and the City’s recycling collection continues to be recycled appropriately.

The City of Subiaco is currently working on a longer-term arrangement to ensure recycling materials are processed appropriately beyond the current arrangement.

The City is working with WALGA, Cleanaway, SMRC and other affected local governments to implement a solution.
