Subiaco’s new public-intake high school, Bob Hawke College opened its doors to around 260 Year 7 students today.
Situated on Kitchener Park next to Subiaco Oval, construction began as part of the State Government’s Subi East Redevelopment project in 2018. The second stage of construction is expected to be built over the next few years.
By 2025 the school will cater for up to 2000 students from years seven to twelve.
The state of the art school includes a 150-seat lecture theatre, modern library and huge multi-purpose indoor sports hall.
Students will also have access to Subiaco Oval - the historic home of WA football - sharing the playing surface with the community outside of school hours.
City of Subiaco Mayor Penny Taylor said the students, parents and college staff would help contribute to growth and vibrancy in Subiaco.
“It’s not the buildings - it’s the people - teachers, staff, students and community that make a place great. This will be an inspirational place,” she said.
Bob Hawke College was officially opened by Premier Mark McGowan, Governor of Western Australia Kim Beazley and Minister for Education Sue Ellery on Sunday 2 February 2020.
