City staff member to undertake gruelling challenge to raise money for frontline workers
Saturday 25 April 2020

To help raise funds for local Perth doctors and nurses working on the COVID-19 frontline, a City of Subiaco staff member will be completing a gruelling 24-hour solo cycling challenge.

Jamie Burton – who works in the Operations and Environment Services team at the City and is an avid mountain biker – will ride a 2km loop in his local neighbourhood 250 times (that's 500km in total!), aiming to raise $1000 for local healthcare workers.

All proceeds will be donated to local café, Wholefood Circus, who will pay his kindness forward to healthcare workers, covering the cost of their coffees and muffins during this difficult time.

Jamie said while it was only a coffee and a muffin that he wanted to give healthcare workers, these small gestures could really make a difference to someone’s day.

“Healthcare workers are doing so much, it’ll be nice to give back to them,” he said.

Jamie’s ambitious challenge has caught the attention of seven time world champion mountain bike racer, Jason English, who has committed to completing the same challenge on the same weekend in his community.

The challenge will kick off at 12pm on Saturday 23 May and run for 24-hours.

If you would like to get involved, you can donate directly to Wholefood Circus (107 Nicholson Road, Shenton Park Perth) – just remember to mention Jamie’s name.
