Subiaco Library to receive major refurbishment

The refurbishment will bring the library up-to-date with current needs, creating a flexible space and developing it as a community hub for residents and visitors alike.

Focussing on functionality, the new library will increase the number of public computers – including two standing desks, install more plugs for laptops and other portable devices, and nearly double the current seating capacity using clever design to ensure the space is not crowded.

The refurbishment is in response to the 2017 Library Services Survey, along with anecdotal feedback from customers and staff, which called for more quiet space and varied seating throughout the library.

The refurbishment is scheduled to kick off 2 December 2019 and will be completed over the summer holiday period when the library is traditionally quieter so as to reduce the impact on customers.

A pop-up library will open Monday 9 December in the Subiaco Community Centre on Bagot Road and will remain open for the duration of the fit out, featuring a capsule collection of both adult and junior fiction and non-fiction books, as well as limited services.

The newly refurbished library is due to open on Library Lovers’ Day, Friday 14 February 2020.
