The City of Subiaco is set to award the contract for a significant extension to Men’s Shed Subiaco this week, which will double the existing footprint of the building.
The announcement comes during Men’s Shed Week, which runs until 29 September and aims to raise awareness of the community-focussed initiative and celebrate the diversity of ‘shedders’ and Men’s Shed activities around the country.
The upcoming extension – which is planned for completion by Christmas subject to contract negotiations – will double the footprint of the existing Bagot Road building and include running new power and communication services to ensure it suits the group’s needs.
In addition, the carpark was recently resurfaced using materials containing recycled concrete and crumbed rubber.
The City established Australia’s first inner-city Men’s Shed run by a local government authority in 2010 which became incorporated in 2012 to allow for greater autonomy in the management of its affairs.
The Men’s Shed Subiaco is located at the rear of the Tom Dadour Community Centre, 363 Bagot Road, Subiaco.
