Celebrate NAIDOC week with the City of Subiaco
Monday 17 June 2019

A celebration of activities and events will grace the city for NAIDOC week from 7 to 14 July, including partnerships with Noongar artist, Seantelle Walsh and Australia’s leading Aboriginal theatre company, Yirra Yaakin.

NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) Week is an annual celebration of Aboriginal culture and history. This year’s theme: is Voice. Treaty. Truth. Let’s work together for a shared future.

The theme highlights the value of our country’s Indigenous voice that is over 65,000 years old. Languages that passed down lore, culture and knowledge over millennia are precious to our nation. The United Nations declared 2019 The Year of International Indigenous Languages.

The city’s annual Welcome to Country and Flag Raising Ceremony is being held on Wednesday 10 July at 10am outside the City of Subiaco Administration Centre, followed by a bush tucker morning tea in the Council Chambers.

The city is also hosting a number of free events at the Subiaco Library during NAIDOC Week and welcomes all members of the community to attend our NAIDOC celebrations. For further information and to register, visit www.subiaco.wa.gov.au/events
