Town Centre parking update
Friday 24 May 2019

The city is implementing changes to parking in the town centre based on the Town Centre Parking Precinct Plan, which was adopted by Council on 16 October 2018.
In November 2018, the city implemented the first change - reducing parking fees in car stations.
The next stage of the rollout included the installation of ticket machines; followed by changes to parking controls around the King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) and Subiaco Train Station. These changes are expected to be implemented by the end of May 2019 and will allow you to park for longer.
Parking in these areas is being increased to three hours with the first hour free, 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday. There will be no restrictions on weekends or after 5pm.
The approach to parking management driving the Town Centre Parking Precinct Plan has been to provide a clear, consistent, flexible, sustainable and contemporary parking control model that is appropriate for the locality, empathetic towards the needs of the community and in line with Council principles.
An effective parking control model encourages parking turnover in areas of high demand, reduces traffic congestion, makes parking easy to find and improves the user experience.
The goal is to balance residential, shopper and commuter parking needs.
Further changes to street parking in the town centre, including Hay Street, will take place after the changes around the hospital and the train station have been finalised. The city will review and monitor the parking controls before any further changes are made and make adjustments where necessary.
