Subiaco Primary student creates winning banner art
Tuesday 11 December 2018

The city’s entrant for the annual Banners in the Terrace exhibition (now ShoWcAse in Pixels) has been announced with some amazing talent discovered in the City of Subiaco.

Overall-winner-Joy-Cho-Subiaco-Primary-School-(1).JPGFor the 2019 competition, the city will submit the winning entry  from a collaborative community design project, involving local primary schools, the Subi Kids Crew (SKC) and the Subi Voice of Youth (SVY).

In September this year, more than 200 students used dyes and collages to develop a design for street banners that represented the City of Subiaco to them.  You can check out some of the entries on display now at Subiaco Library until 18 December 2018.

Mayor Penny Taylor announced the winners at a special event held at the library on Thursday 29 November. Four winning banner designs were selected to be displayed along Rokeby Road next year including overall winner, Joy Cho from Subiaco Primary; Emily Cashion from Subiaco Primary School; Isabelle Hoareau from Rosalie Primary School; and Natalie Jones from Subi Kids Crew.

The judges said Joy’s distinctive winning design was well composed with a creative use of space, colours, detailed drawings and texture. The judges especially liked the bicycle, patchwork lake and family of swans.  Joy’s design will be entered in the West Australian Local Government Association (WALGA) 2019 Banners in the Terrace competition.

Winning entries in the ShoWcAse in Pixels competition will be displayed in Yagan Square from Monday 29 July to Sunday 18 August. Good luck Joy!
