Mosquitoes can be a nuisance and they can also transmit viruses and parasites that may cause sickness in humans and animals. The City of Subiaco has a mosquito management program in place to control and prevent mosquito breeding.
Residents also have a role to play. Here are a few things you can do around the house to help fight the bite:
- empty stagnant water (e.g. pot plant drip trays, pet drinking bowls, water holding plants)
- introduce mosquito eating fish to ornamental ponds
- keep swimming pools well chlorinated, filtered and free of dead leaves
- don’t overwater gardens
- clean your gutters of water.
This summer, the City of Subiaco will be at select events, including sunset@subi concerts on Saturday 23 December and Sunday 20 January, with a Fight the Bite pop-up stand. Visit us to learn about protecting yourself, your family and your pets from mosquito-borne illness and pick up a complimentary sample of mosquito repellent.
Fight the Bite is a WA Health campaign. For more information, visit www.healthywa.wa.gov.au/fightthebite
