$5 a day parking
Monday 5 November 2018

Parking in the eastern quarter of Subiaco is about to get a whole lot cheaper.

The City of Subiaco is dropping parking fees to $5 a day in ten car parks near Subiaco Oval, the former Princess Margaret Hospital site (PMH), Hay Street and Thomas Street from 5 November.

The changes are being implemented after the closure of PMH left an oversupply of parking bays in city car stations which are no longer being used.

Mayor Penny Taylor said Council was adapting quickly to changes in the area.

“With the hospital moving and redevelopment in the Subiaco East area, we’ve been looking at innovative ways to adapt and grow. Council is making smart and fast decisions in response to change,” she said.

“The city supports a range of transport methods. This initiative is about best using city assets – we have a good track record in parking management.

“The reduced fees will provide parking options for local workers which takes the pressure off residential streets,” Mayor Taylor said.

The city has successfully increased occupancy in underused all-day car stations in other areas, including Shenton Park near the new Perth Children’s Hospital and QEII Medical Centre by monitoring occupancy and adjusting fees accordingly.

With more than 15 000 people travelling into Subiaco each day for work, the fee drop will provide an affordable parking option for local workers and incentive for businesses looking to open up shop in Subiaco.

The new fees will come into effect on Monday 5 November. Please refer to parking signage for full terms and conditions.
