The City of Subiaco has been recognised for sustainable transport initiatives in its employee benefits program at the Department of Transport’s Your Move Awards this week.
The city won the Workplace Achieve Award for staff incentives including a sustainable travel allowance, staff Smartriders and staff e-Bikes.
The Your Move Awards recognise the achievements and contributions of local governments, schools and workplaces in getting more people walking, cycling and using public transport more often.
The City of Subiaco offers a sustainable travel allowance to all permanent staff, rewarding employees who walk, cycle or catch public transport to and from the workplace.
The city also provides employees with access to Staff Smartriders, to encourage the use of public transport for travel during work hours, and in 2017 introduced Staff e-Bikes as an alternative to car travel when conducting city business.
CEO Rochelle Lavery said the city had achieved excellent results from the initiatives.
“Sustainable practices are part of our work culture and providing alternative options for staff has big benefits for employee wellbeing and the environment,” Ms Lavery said.
“Almost forty percent of eligible staff choose to take advantage of our sustainable transport allowance instead of driving to work,” she said.
“Our staff e-Bikes are also very popular and great fun to ride. They’re used for up to fifteen journeys a week for travel between worksites, to meetings and for short trips down Rokeby Road.
“We want to be innovators in this area and show strong leadership in the community by promoting sustainable practices,” Ms Lavery said.
The City of Subiaco offers a number of attractive employee benefits including leave benefits, subsidised gym membership, superannuation incentives and training and development opportunities.
