Demolition of Subiaco Oval grandstands
Wednesday 29 August 2018

Subiaco Oval grandstands and infrastructure are expected to be demolished in early 2019, to make way for the Subiaco East redevelopment.

The State Government has lodged a development application with the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority (MRA) for the demolition.

According to the application, the majority of the stadium infrastructure is to be removed, the heritage listed entry gates retained and the Sandover Medal Walk, which represents 96 years of WA football history, will be relocated or reinterpreted.

The Minister for Planning, Rita Saffioti said the State would work with the chosen contractor on the detailed demolition program to see if any of the infrastructure or grandstands could be retained.

The oval’s playing surface will be preserved, to be used by the students of the new Inner City College and for the city’s local junior sport competition.

A contractor is expected to be appointed in early 2019 to ensure demotion occurs before the new Inner City College opens to Year 7 students in 2020.

Local residents will be informed about building works and safety management once a contractor has been appointed.

The development application is open for public comment on the MRA website until Wednesday 19 September.
