Blue sky thinking could shape Subi East future
Friday 29 June 2018

Subiaco Mayor Penny Taylor is leading the push for a unique cultural attraction to be considered as part of the master planning for the Subiaco East Redevelopment.

The bold idea would continue Subiaco’s legacy as a centre for sport, arts and culture by providing a new tourist attraction located near the Subiaco Oval site.

Mayor Penny Taylor said the concept was in its early stages with further concept planning to inform the type of attraction it could be.

“We’re open to all possibilities at this early stage and will see what comes out of the concept work before deciding what the final pitch will be,” she said.

The Subi East project, led by LandCorp, will see the redevelopment of 35 hectares of land including the new Inner City College, Subiaco Oval and Princess Margaret Hospital sites.

Mayor Taylor said master planning for the Subi East precinct was currently in the early stages and the City of Subiaco was part of the project working group.

“We have a seat at the table for this project, and we should take full advantage of this by putting forward Subiaco initiatives, rather than reacting to what the state proposes,” she said.

A unanimous council decision on Tuesday 1 June supported the idea and will allow the city’s Mayor and Acting CEO to explore the opportunity and develop a formal concept.

Once finalised, the concept document will be presented back to Council for endorsement.
