The City of Subiaco is aiming to attract 100 000 new visitors to the town centre next financial year with $195 000 allocated for event spending.
Facilitated by the city’s destination marketing brand See Subiaco, the money will be spent on events and place development activations to boost the local economy, activate space and draw large crowds into the town centre.
A Christmas initiative will be unveiled in November to kick start the festive season with a new approach that focusses on local businesses. $46 000 of the funding will be spent on returning events with a cultural and food/wine focus, as well as supporting two new event initiatives.
Following on from the success of Subi Blooms, more intermittent place making initiatives will be rolled out including lighting installations, hospitality promotions and sustainability initiatives. Another $98 000 will be allocated to other events following the next round of funding in September this year.
Events like these have an incredible economic benefit for the city. In April this year, the city teamed up with 43 local businesses to present the Subiaco Street Party which attracted 40 000 attendees and generated $2.2 million dollars for the local economy.
