Lake Jualbup redevelopment delay
Wednesday 21 February 2018

Works at Lake Jualbup have paused as the city investigates environmental issues and appoints a new contractor to complete the $1.4 million upgrade project.

City of Subiaco CEO Don Burnett confirmed that the contractor, BCL Group, had suspended trading.

“BCL stopped work at the site on Friday 16 February and on Monday the city received notice of their suspension of trading.

“The city has issued formal notice to BCL Group to terminate its contract and we are in the process of appointing another contractor to finish the project,” Mr Burnett said.

Of immediate concern to the city is a loss of wildlife recorded on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Mr Burnett said the cause of the wildlife deaths had not yet been determined.

“At this stage we don’t know if it is related to the site works or if there were other causes.

“Water testing indicated that the water quality was at acceptable levels up until Friday, the last day of testing.

“City staff are working with environmental authorities to identify the source of the problem and protect the turtles, birds and other wildlife at the lake.”

Warning signs have been placed around the lake as a precaution and testing will continue.

Limited emergency construction works will recommence tomorrow.

Further information will be published on the Lake Jualbup upgrade page when available.
