The City of Subiaco Library is excited and proud to be recognised as an eSmart Library by The Alannah & Madeline Foundation and the Telstra Foundation.
Subiaco Library has worked hard to support and pave the way for its community to use technology in a smart, safe and responsible way. It has seen the integration of cyber safety into the library’s daily operations, staff development and organisational culture.
eSmart Libraries is one of the most significant community cyber safety programs ever undertaken in Australia, with over one-third of all libraries in Australia currently involved in the program and Subiaco Library is the first in the western suburbs to achieve this status.
Public libraries are a vital community resource especially when it comes to online support and bringing community together. Subiaco Library enables access to a treasure trove of information available for all to enjoy and prosper from in a safe way.
The city’s eSmart practices are embedded in the city’s library services. Being eSmart means knowing how to guard against security and privacy risks online, download content in a legal and ethical way, research and reference information, and manage reputation and relationships in cyberspace.
Subiaco Library achieved the following five areas to attain the eSmart certification, being:
- Library vision, strategy and leadership
- Library agreements and procedures
- Effective staff knowledge and capabilities
- Guidance and learning for users
- Community connectiveness.
By making the online library experience safer for everyone, eSmart Libraries will provide the Subiaco community with the opportunity to experience the social and economic benefits of new digital technologies.
