Mayor’s remarkable contribution
Friday 20 October 2017

Twenty-five years of local government service will come to an end tomorrow but it’s fair to say Mayor Heather Henderson’s involvement in the community is far from over.

Creating a welcoming and inclusive community was a key driver for Mayor Henderson during her local government career.

A fierce proponent of all sectors of the community, especially those who are vulnerable or disadvantaged, Mayor Henderson has advocated for a number of causes during her time on council and made time for all who crossed her path.

During her tenure, she steered the city through a number of triumphs and upheavals, including the future of Subiaco Oval and local government reform (proposed amalgamations).

She has been a champion for disability access and inclusion, culture and the arts, and heritage.

City of Subiaco CEO Don Burnett said Mayor Henderson had made an unparalleled contribution to her community.

“Mayor Henderson’s dedication to the Subiaco community has been second-to-none, and her reputation in the community is one of integrity and commitment.

“She has made a significant contribution to the local government industry, having served as a WALGA State Councillor and receiving Life Membership in 2015.

“On behalf of elected members and staff, both past and present, and the Subiaco community, I thank Mayor Henderson for her service.”

Mayor Henderson’s term will end tomorrow. Her retirement plans include travel and continued involvement with a number of community organisations.
