The City of Subiaco received a commendation for the Subiaco Activity Centre Plan at the 2016 Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) WA Awards for Planning Excellence.
The city was awarded for its forward thinking and innovation in the development of the activity centre plan, which provides a vision and long-term planning framework for the revitalisation of the Subiaco Town Centre.
The plan facilitates activation in the town centre through guidelines for things like land use, heritage, height, transport and population to celebrate what makes Subiaco unique while embracing a bright future for the city.
A PIA WA executive officer said the project was innovative and very forward thinking.
“The project displayed forward thinking and innovation across its process, approach and outcomes and represents a clear guide to reinvigorating the town centre is heading down the path to achieving a sense of place for Subiaco.” she said.
The plan was endorsed by Council in September this year. The plan is currently with the Western Australian Planning Commission for final approval and is likely to be received in early 2017. To find out more about the plan visit the planning and development page.
