Sunday 17 to Saturday 23 May is Food Allergy Week, an initiative by Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia.
Food allergies have become increasingly prominent in Australia, which has one of the highest reported incidences of food allergies in the world.
It is estimated that two in one hundred adults, one in ten babies and six per cent of children have a food allergy.
With over 170 foods known to trigger a reaction, it is the responsibility of all of us to be allergy aware and to know the risks, how to respond if a reaction occurs and importantly be able to understand and support family, friends and colleagues.
There are numerous ways that you can show your support during Food Allergy Week. For more information, please visit the city’s health and wellbeing page.
