The City of Subiaco's children's program, Subi Kids Crew (SKC), recently hosted a group of young people from Cockburn Children's Reference Group (CCRG) to enjoy Subiaco and its surrounds during the October school holidays.
Designed to boost their ambassadorial and interpersonal development skill set, eight SKC members showed the six representatives from CCRG some of the sights within Subiaco suitable for children, including a stop at the new Theatre Gardens playspace for a picnic lunch.
One participant, Milla Bebe Leach from SKC, said “I had a wonderful time at the picnic. I especially enjoyed looking for the turtle plaques and letters. I didn't even know they existed. So we all learned something new!”
The children from both groups, aged between seven and twelve years old, are part of only a handful of children’s civic advisory groups in Western Australia.
The SKC program aims to give children within the City of Subiaco a voice and to foster a positive image of children through children’s participation in community initiatives, events and consultation. The four areas of focus for the program are skill development, advisory and ambassadorial participation, and interpersonal development.
In turn, future leaders can be identified and developed by the City of Subiaco.
