Planning for the future

At the 2016 census the City of Subiaco had an Estimated Resident Population of 17 066 which is expected to grow to 20 316 by 2026 and 22 711 by 2036. At the same time the number of residential dwellings is projected to grow from 8 410 at the 2016 census to 10 228 in 2026 and 11 605 in 2036.

This projected dwelling and population growth is supported by the City of Subiaco’s Local Planning Strategy which sets the framework for long-term integrated and sustainable planning and development within the city. The Strategy identifies strategic development areas in which the majority of the projected population growth can be accommodated, which ensures that the existing character of residential neighbourhoods and heritage areas can be retained.

This approach accommodates both the community’s expectations and the State Government’s growth targets for the City of Subiaco while also increasing the vibrancy of the Subiaco Activity Centre. For more information on planning and development within the city, visit our planning web pages.
