The city and FORM are in talks with the owner of the Pavilion Markets site about the possibility of opening an artisan market/art space at the site in the new year.
The concept would provide local artists and makers with free spaces to work and display their wares until development on the site commences.
Under the plan, the Roberts/Rokeby frontage would be opened, allowing public access to part of the former market space for the first time in almost ten years.
The site owner is also considering other potential interim uses for the remainder of the site.
“We’re keen to work with the City of Subiaco and FORM, who are experienced in operating this kind of venue, to try to make this happen.”
City of Subiaco Mayor Penny Taylor said the community wanted to see something happen on the site as soon as possible.
“We’re calling on the owner to pursue this opportunity.”
Health and safety approvals permitting, the venture could be underway in early 2018.
