City calls for minister to reject SRA China Green proposal
The Subiaco Redevelopment Authority’s (SRA) latest proposal for the China Green development must be rejected by the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure, the Honorable John Day, because the proposal is not supported by the majority of Subiaco residents and does not integrate with Subi Centro.
The City of Subiaco, on behalf of the community, has expressed the following key concerns in relation to the proposal:
1. The SRA has ignored community sentiment – 95 per cent of the local community opposed the last development proposal going ahead and since this time minimal changes have been made to the proposal.
2. The SRA has refused to adequately address urban design criteria including:
- building design layout, density, height, bulk and scale
- volume of commercial floorspace
- car parking
- integration with existing land uses
- traffic congestion.
3. The SRA has not fully informed all stakeholders.
4. The community consultation undertaken by the SRA was inadequate.
5. The SRA has lost sight of the original vision and objectives of the redevelopment plan and its original commitment to the community.
