World-renowned artists to collaborate on major Subiaco artwork

An iconic 53-metre-tall chimney stack, located at the Subi East 1909 precinct (previously the Princess Margaret Hospital site), will be splashed with vibrant colours as part of a recently commissioned art project, supported by the City of Subiaco, called ‘Here Together’.

There was a global search to find the perfect artists for the job, with MOMO and Abdul Abdullah winning the bid to reinvent this iconic structure.

MOMO (David Momyer) is an experimental artist from San Francisco with decades of experience in large scale outdoor artwork, and Perth-born artist Abdul Abdullah is a six-time Archibald Prize finalist with experience across painting, photography, installation and performance.

The piece, ‘Here Together’, will feature a vibrant mural and sculptural lighting elements, and seeks to celebrate the community’s sense of connectedness.

During their time in Subiaco, the artists will be part of two free community events:
  • ‘Make Your Own’ artist workshop with MOMO at Subiaco Arts Centre on Wednesday 29 November. MOMO will teach participants how to make their own pattern paint rollers, then paint with their new tools. Spaces extremely limited, book here.
  • Artist talk with MOMO and Abdul Abdullah at Bob Hawke College on Thursday 30 November. The artists will offer insights into their site-specific artwork collaboration, and will explore what has informed the piece’s design and technical aspects. Spaces limited, book here.
This project is supported by Creative Road Art Projects, DevelopmentWA, the City of Subiaco, and Artify.
