Volunteers thanked and awarded at special event

The City of Subiaco held a special end of year event last week to celebrate and thank its dedicated volunteers for the vital role they play in making our community stronger.

The event saw Lillian Tyter from Subi Voice of Youth (SVY) named Volunteer of the Year – an award that recognises City volunteers who have demonstrated incredible service and commitment through their duties over the past 12 months.

Lillian has volunteered for the City for 19 months, during which time she has exhibited unwavering commitment and participation to SVY, emceed two significant City events, and displayed outstanding leadership in her position of SVY treasurer.

Three City volunteers were also awarded for five years of service at the event, including Jack Fairey (Subi Voice of Youth), Inge Cooper (English Conversation Club), and Sheila Wileman (Subiaco Museum).

For the first time, the City extended event invites to volunteers in local community organisations, including Subiaco Men’s Shed, Wandana Community Association, Dress for Success, Subiaco Church, The Irish Club, and Onslow Park Tennis Club.

Mayor David McMullen said it was a pleasure to attend the annual volunteer appreciation event.

“It’s important to acknowledge and celebrate the powerful impact that volunteers have on our community,” he said.

“Every one of our volunteers plays a unique and vital role in making the City what it is today by creating positive change and enhancing the services we can provide to our community.

“Our programs wouldn’t be the same without the commitment, dedication and passion of our volunteers and, for that, I say thank you.”

The City has a number of volunteer programs and opportunities including Subiaco Museum, Subi Voice of Youth, Positive Ageing Ambassador Program, Lords community exercise classes, environmental programs, Books on Wheels, English conversation classes, Justice of the Peace service, and Digication sessions.
