Take part in the 2023 Aussie Bird Count

You’re invited to join in the 2023 Aussie Bird Count happening during National Bird Week, 16 to 22 October.

City of Subiaco residents take part in this survey and each year people head out to their front yards and back gardens, as well as to the City’s beautiful parks and playgrounds, to count how many birds they see.

Feathered friends spotted in the City during the 2022 bird count included regular native residents such as the Red Wattlebird, Australian Raven and Australian Magpie, as well as locally introduced species including the Rainbow Lorikeet, Little Corella and Laughing Dove.

This fun and simple activity is good for you, and good for our environment. Observing nature can benefit your mental health and wellbeing, and is a great activity to do as a family or with friends.

At the same time, collecting this data annually allows us to look at the trends in our bird communities. Sustainability is a key priority for the City, and the birds’ health and wellbeing is one of nature’s best indicators as to how their habitat is faring.

Download the Aussie Bird Count app and get involved or learn more at aussiebirdcount.org.au and join the flock for Australia’s largest citizen science project.
