How to look after your bike

To help celebrate Bike Month this October and encourage more cycling as a sustainable (and fun!) way to travel, the City put on a number of special events for the whole family.

As part of this, the team from Bike Dr visited Subi Farmers’ Market recently to give out some free TLC to your two-wheels.

If you missed them or couldn’t make it, Luke from Bike Dr has you covered with his top tips for looking after your bike…

  1. Look after your tyres: pump up your tyres to the correct PSI (that’ll be written on the side of your tyre). Do this at least once a week.

  2. Keep your chain lubricated: use specific chain lube for this and apply it evenly all over the chain and wipe of the excess so no sand or dirt gets attracted to it.

  3. Check your brake pads: they have wear indicators on them so you can make sure they have “plenty of meat on them”.

  4. Clean your bike: when you’re cleaning your bike, it’s a good chance to check on everything and notice if anything needs replacing.

And Luke said that if you’re riding your bike and you ever feel like something’s not quite right, just pop down to your local bike shop for some advice.
