FOGO on the way for units and apartments

The City of Subiaco has commenced a rollout of FOGO (Food Organics, Garden Organics) to multi-unit dwellings, including units and apartments.

FOGO was first introduced in the City of Subiaco in May 2023, when FOGO bins and caddies were delivered to all single-unit dwellings, or houses, within the City.

Since this initial rollout, FOGO has reduced waste to landfill by 20 per cent, and diverted more than 1,000 tonnes of methane-producing organics from landfill. These organics have been converted into high-quality compost, contributing to a more circular economy.

The City aims to deliver FOGO bins and kitchen caddies to 60 per cent of units and apartments by 30 June 2024.

Mayor David McMullen said this rollout to units and apartments will continue the kinds of positive, long-lasting environmental impact that have been seen since the initial FOGO rollout.

“The low contamination rates and diversion of waste from landfill that we’ve seen from the City’s initial FOGO rollout is very encouraging,” he said.

“Once the rollout is complete, all residents will be equipped to manage their household waste in a way that encourages sustainable habits, helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and creates positive outcomes for the environment.”
