City of Subiaco Medallion for the best club man for 2022

The City congratulates Subiaco Football Club player, Jack Mayo who has been awarded the City of Subiaco Medallion as the best club man for 2022.

The Subiaco Lions recently became the 2022 champions of the WAFL Reserves competition after a six-point win over West Perth in the Grand Final on 1 October. This is the sixteenth Premiership in the club’s history and the first since 2018. The club told the City that this win is a credit to the work Jack did this year.

The City of Subiaco supports the Subiaco Football Club by contributing to the player award for best clubman each year.

Mayor David McMullen said, “Football has been a big part of the Subiaco identity historically, and the community continues to love and support the game.

“The City is very proud to support the Subiaco Lions, to see another victory, and to congratulate Jack Mayo who has been awarded as the best clubman for 2022.”

Jack has been playing with the Subiaco Lions Football Club since his junior football days in 2014.

The twenty three-year-old said, “I’m very excited to have won best clubman. It’s such an honour. You don’t help out for the awards, but it’s nice to be recognised.”

Jack grew up in both Kalgoorlie and Subiaco and said that his favourite thing about the club is their inclusive culture and the strong link it has to the area.

“The club values comradery and has great values. If people want to come down and support us you’ll see a club that has strong ties to the community and is always giving back. I’m really proud to be a part of that.”

The Subiaco Lions Football Club awarded Jack with the medallion for 2022, calling him “a great ambassador for the club and the City of Subiaco.”

The club told the City that Jack is an exceptional role model and very deserving of this accolade.

“Mayo was instrumental as a leader within the club both in official and unofficial roles in 2022. He offered to assist as the backline coach for the Reserves team, a position that was out of his comfort zone as a traditional forward. The team went on the win the Grand Final with the backline credited as the leagues’ best. This is a credit to Mayo and the system he operated within.

“In addition, Mayo led the team off the field as a guiding light for those within the recovery group. Consistency, dedication and determination is the most fitting way to describe a great footballer who has dealt with an above average injury load.”

Congratulations, Jack.
