Bulk hard waste collection: 19 February

The Verge ValetTM trial has now ended and bi-annual bulk hard waste collections are making a return this year after a Council decision in June 2023.

The first bulk hard waste collection will commence Monday 19 February 2024 and is an opportunity to discard any bulk rubbish that cannot be reused or repaired.

While some items may get picked up or pulled apart for pieces from people once they’re out on the verge, there are ways to guarantee a second lease on life for your unwanted items (and even get some extra cash in the process!), including gifting, selling, donating, fixing or swapping items.

Buy Nothing groups, Gumtree, eBay, Facebook Marketplace, street libraries and charity shops or donation points are great options to help your item find a loving home.

All items that are picked up from the verge collection are recycled wherever possible but, by reusing or reducing the amount of waste we have, we can reduce the amount of waste that needs to processed or sent to landfill, saving energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This also helps to reduce the need to mine or extract more precious natural resources to manufacture new products.

For more information on the collection, please see the FAQ sheet, or contact the City of Subiaco on 9237 9222 or waste@subiaco.wa.gov.au.

The Western Metropolitan Regional Council (who run the West Metro Recycling Centre, which residents can make use of year-round) also have a recycling hotline which the community can call on 9384 6711.

For the collection commencing Monday 19 February, items should be placed out for collection the weekend of the 17/18 of February 2024.

Want to win?
Tell us your recycling or ‘upcycling’ story over on Facebook and go in the draw to win a voucher to one of Subi’s local op shops or to Spotlight (an upcyclers heaven!). It could be anything from how your old couch ended up being used in a small business or how you found a designer dress for peanuts at the op shop or on eBay.
Winners will be drawn randomly on Monday 12 February.
