Calling budding young wordsmiths! As part of the City of Subiaco’s program supporting the Craig Silvey Award for Young Writers in 2023, the author himself will be ready to answer all your burning questions about what it takes to craft a great story.
On Monday 15 May Craig Silvey will be appearing at Subiaco Arts Centre to talk about how to advance the writing process and to celebrate the ‘messy middle’, where ideas are unformed but have exciting potential.
Craig then heads south to Albany Public Library on Wednesday 17 May to support students and develop young writing talent in the Great Southern Region.
This is followed by an online workshop for schools across the state on Thursday 18 May, which can benefit every young writer in Western Australia.
Craig Silvey is keen to support youth talent in WA, and for this year’s award his focus is on supporting budding authors to add to their skill set and expand their ideas.
At the workshops he’ll reveal what he’s learnt over his career as a writer and what he’s looking forward to as the patron of the youth writing award.

- Monday 15 May, 6pm – 7pm, Subiaco Arts Centre. This free session is perfect for young writers in Years 1 to 12 wanting to learn more about the writing process. Craig will also be signing copies of his books from 7pm. Bookings required, visit www.subiaco.wa.gov.au/events.
- Wednesday 17 May, 6pm – 7pm, Albany Public Library. Young writers, teachers, librarians and parents living in around Albany are invited to this special free event with Craig Silvey, who will also be signing copies of his books from 7pm. - Thursday 18 May, 9am – 10.15am, online only. Western Australian schools are invited to register for a free online Q&A session with author Craig Silvey. To register email award@subiaco.wa.gov.au. You will then receive an email confirmation and the zoom link.
