Barker Road streetscape upgrade – April 2017

The city is undertaking a minor streetscape upgrade and landscaping works to enhance the aesthetic and environment of Barker Road. The city will plant thirteen new plane trees in the median strip, update the kerbing and median strip, and improve pedestrian safety by adding new pedestrian ramps to the footpath. The works will also include new drainage soak wells and new line marking for parking bays.

Shenton Park drainage upgrade – March to May 2017

The city is upgrading the drainage infrastructure on Onslow Road from Excelsior to Centre streets, and on Centre Street and Evans Street, to alleviate flooding in the area. The works will improve the capacity of the overall drainage system to a one-in-ten year storm event – a significant improvement on the existing capacity. The works will involve road closures however access will be maintained wherever possible. 

Update 26 April 2017: Works commence in Onslow Road today and are expected to take approximately four weeks. The works require the closure of the northern lane of Onslow Road between Excelsior and Centre streets. Appropriate traffic diversions will be in place and access to the shopping centre will still be available (approach from the east). There will be pedestrian access to businesses on both sides of the road.

Mueller Park footpath replacement – May to June 2017

The city is replacing the existing asphalt footpath at Mueller Park with a concrete footpath. Pedestrian and cyclist detours will be in place for the duration of works to ensure the safety of footpath users.

Nicholson Road asphalt replacement

The city is currently replacing the asphalt on Nicholson Road between Railway and Derby roads. These works are partly funded by the State Government under the Metropolitan Regional Road Group Program. The program provides funding to local governments to improve road surfaces that carry more than 2000 vehicles per day where the existing road condition is shown to warrant renewal. The upgrade will be completed in two stages.

Derby Road / Aberdare Road Intersection 

Widening and realignment of the intersection.  These works are included within the Federal Government's National Blackspot program to improve road safety.

Kenworthy Lane Drainage upgrade

Upgrade of the existing drainage infrastructure and resurfacing of the laneway, (ROW 518) Kenworthy Lane is located off Rokeby Road, behind the Subiaco Hotel.
