National Carers Week will be celebrated from 11 to 17 October to recognise and celebrate the vital contribution Australia’s 2.7 million unpaid carers make to our nation.
A carer is an individual who provides personal care, support and assistance to another because they have a disability, medical condition, mental illness or is frail and aged. It is important to note these services are unpaid.
The contribution carers make to our Australian communities is significant. It is estimated that in 2015 informal carers provided 1.9 billion hours of care. That is the equivalent of thirteen hours per week to each carer. If this was replaced with services purchased from formal care providers, the replacement value of informal care would be $60.3 billion.
Therefore it is vitally important carers have support and networking groups available. The City of Subiaco provides support, information, activities and programs for carers which can be viewed on our website.
Below are the various recurring carer support meetings available near Subiaco. Carers Week will also have a Family Fun Day and Expo featuring free health checks, hand massages, morning tea and lunch, and activities for the whole family.
You can find information regarding other support networks and programs on the Carers Australia and the Carers WA websites.
